Terms of Service

1. Acceptance

Saltmarch is a community-edited map and directory of public events, operated by [ENTITY] ("Saltmarch", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Saltmarch.

2. What Saltmarch is

Saltmarch is a map and directory of public events. Some events are yours — posted and controlled by the person or organization behind them — and others belong to everyone, open listings (often drawn from public civic sources) that anyone can edit (we explain the difference in Section 5). Either way, information may be inaccurate, incomplete, out of date, or changed or cancelled without notice. Always verify details — date, time, place, price, and whether an event is still happening — with the official source or organizer before you rely on them. We do not organize most events listed and are not responsible for them.

3. Your account

• You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
• Provide accurate information and keep your password secure.
• You're responsible for activity that happens under your account.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• post content that is illegal, infringing, harassing, hateful, deceptive, or unsafe;
• impersonate others or misrepresent who you are;
• disrupt the service, or reuse content in violation of Section 6 below.

We scan uploaded media for safety and may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these Terms.

5. Two kinds of events — yours, and everyone's

There are two kinds of events on Saltmarch, and the difference is about who owns an event, not who can see it — both kinds are visible to everyone.

Your events. An event you post is yours. It's public, so anyone can find it and look at it — but you own it and you control it, the way a public post on Instagram is out in the open while still being yours. You keep every right to your own words and images. You grant Saltmarch a limited license to host, store, back up, and display your event — so it shows up on the map, in search, and in features like lists — and nothing more. We don't fold it into the public commons, and we never take your name off your work.

Everyone's events. Some events belong to everyone — open, wiki-style listings (often drawn from public civic sources) that anyone can add to and improve, the way a Wikipedia page belongs to its community of editors rather than to any one person. When an event is everyone's, its content is a shared commons: it's licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 (CC BY-SA 4.0) — free for anyone to use, copy, and build on, as long as they credit Saltmarch and share what they make under the same open terms (see Section 6).

Whichever kind it is, you confirm you have the right to contribute what you add and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights. And the bare facts of an event — its name, date, time, and place — are just facts: they belong to no one, and anyone is free to list them.

6. Reusing the commons (including scraping)

Everyone's events (the open, anyone-can-edit listings in Section 5) are available under CC BY-SA 4.0: you may reuse them provided you give attribution and a link back to Saltmarch and license any derivatives under the same terms. We build Saltmarch to be useful to people, search engines, and AI assistants — reuse is welcome on those terms. Your events are not offered under this license: their bare facts may appear publicly, but your original text and images remain yours and are not others' to redistribute.

Place and map data is derived from OpenStreetMap — © OpenStreetMap contributors, and is available under the Open Database License (ODbL) . Any reuse of that place/map data must comply with the ODbL.

7. Our intellectual property

The Saltmarch name, logo, and software are ours. The license in Section 5 covers community-contributed content — it does not grant rights to our brand or our code.

8. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. In particular, we make no warranty about the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any event listing.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Saltmarch and [ENTITY] are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service or from attending any event you found through it.

10. Termination

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. When an account is deleted, its past public contributions are retained but re-attributed to a steward account, to preserve the integrity of the commons (see the Privacy Policy).

11. Changes

We may update these Terms as the service evolves. We'll revise the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes we'll give notice. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of [STATE], USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
